Correction and Retraction Policy

Correction and Retraction Policy

The Jurnal Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, STISIPOL Raja Haji is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors or ethical concerns may occasionally be identified after an article has been published. When such issues arise, the journal will take appropriate and transparent action to correct the published record while preserving the integrity of the academic literature. This policy applies to all articles published in the Jurnal Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, including research articles, review articles, and other scholarly publications.

1. Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error in a published article affects the accuracy, clarity, or completeness of the publication but does not invalidate the main findings, conclusions, or scholarly contribution of the article. Corrections may include, but are not limited to:

  • errors in the text, tables, figures, or references;
  • typographical or factual errors that may cause misunderstanding;
  • errors in author names, affiliations, or other publication metadata;
  • errors that affect the interpretation of the article but do not invalidate its principal findings; and
  • other substantive errors that can be corrected without altering the overall validity of the article.

Corrections will be published as a separate correction notice and will be linked to the original article. Where technically possible, the original article will be updated to reflect the correction while maintaining a clear record of the change. Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect the meaning, interpretation, or integrity of the article may be corrected by the editorial team without issuing a formal correction notice.

2. Retractions

An article may be retracted when its findings or content are determined to be unreliable or when serious ethical or publication violations have occurred. Reasons for retraction may include, but are not limited to:

  • substantial fabrication or falsification of data;
  • plagiarism or serious forms of unattributed use of another person's work;
  • substantial duplicate or redundant publication;
  • serious errors that invalidate the main findings or conclusions;
  • unethical research practices or serious violations of research ethics;
  • inappropriate or fraudulent authorship;
  • manipulation or fraudulent interference with the peer-review or publication process;
  • undisclosed conflicts of interest that materially affect the validity or interpretation of the research; or
  • other serious forms of research or publication misconduct that compromise the integrity of the scholarly record.

Retraction does not necessarily imply misconduct by the authors. An article may be retracted because of honest errors that substantially invalidate its findings.

3. Expression of Concern

The journal may publish an Expression of Concern when there are serious concerns regarding the integrity, reliability, or ethical aspects of a published article, but the available evidence is insufficient to justify an immediate correction or retraction. An Expression of Concern may be issued while the journal, authors, affiliated institutions, or other relevant parties investigate the matter. The Expression of Concern will be linked to the affected article and will remain part of the scholarly record. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the journal may subsequently publish a correction or retraction.

4. Procedure for Corrections and Retractions

Concerns regarding a published article may be raised by authors, readers, reviewers, editors, institutions, or other relevant parties. When a concern is received, the Editor-in-Chief will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether further investigation is warranted. Where appropriate, the editor may:

  1. request clarification or supporting information from the authors;
  2. consult members of the editorial board or independent experts;
  3. contact the relevant institution or research organization when necessary;
  4. review the article, editorial records, peer-review information, or other relevant evidence; and
  5. determine the appropriate editorial action based on the available evidence and applicable publication ethics standards.

The journal will handle allegations and investigations fairly, objectively, and confidentially. Authors will be given an appropriate opportunity to respond to substantive allegations concerning their work. Where an investigation involves institutional or research-ethics authorities, the journal may defer certain decisions until sufficient information is available.

5. Retraction Notice

When an article is retracted, the journal will publish a clear and freely accessible Retraction Notice explaining the reason for the retraction. The retraction notice will:

  • identify the retracted article and its bibliographic information;
  • state clearly that the article has been retracted;
  • provide the reason or reasons for the retraction;
  • identify the party or parties requesting or initiating the retraction where appropriate; and
  • remain permanently linked to the original article.

The original article will normally remain accessible in the journal's archive to preserve the scholarly record. The article will be clearly marked as “Retracted” and will not be presented as part of the valid scholarly literature. The journal will not remove a retracted article from the online archive unless there are exceptional legal or ethical reasons requiring its removal.

6. Author-Initiated Corrections or Retractions

Authors are encouraged to promptly notify the journal if they identify a significant error, inaccuracy, ethical concern, or other issue affecting their published article. Authors may request a correction or retraction by contacting the editorial office and providing sufficient information regarding the issue. A request for correction or retraction will be evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief based on the nature and significance of the issue. The final decision regarding publication of a correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction rests with the journal.

7. Post-Publication Concerns

The journal welcomes responsible scholarly communication concerning published articles. Readers and other researchers who identify substantial errors, ethical concerns, plagiarism, unreliable findings, or other issues affecting a published article may contact the editorial office with relevant evidence. All such concerns will be evaluated objectively and handled in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics and this Correction and Retraction Policy.

8. Appeals and Disputes

Authors may submit an appeal concerning a correction or retraction decision by providing a clear explanation and relevant evidence to the Editor-in-Chief. Appeals will be considered objectively and may be reviewed by members of the editorial board or independent experts when necessary. A decision may be reconsidered when new and substantive evidence becomes available.

9. Editorial Independence and Transparency

Decisions concerning corrections, Expressions of Concern, and retractions shall be based on academic evidence, publication ethics, and the integrity of the scholarly record. Such decisions shall not be influenced by commercial interests, advertising, institutional pressure, personal relationships, or other external considerations. The journal is committed to handling post-publication issues transparently while respecting confidentiality, privacy, and applicable legal and ethical requirements.

10. Relationship with Publication Ethics

This policy forms part of the journal's broader commitment to publication ethics and research integrity. The Publication Ethics policy sets out the ethical responsibilities of editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher, while this policy provides specific procedures for addressing significant errors, ethical concerns, and integrity issues identified after publication. The journal may take appropriate action in accordance with recognized principles of publication ethics and scholarly publishing standards.
